Shipping to Bali for Villas, Hotels and Restaurants

The villa in Canggu is nearly finished. The dining tables are ready in a workshop in Italy, the pendant lights in Melbourne and the outdoor kitchen in California, and the contractor needs everything on site before the handover date. If you are a villa owner, hotel or restaurant project team, interior designer or contractor, your questions are practical: can it all get to the villa, what will customs and tax cost, will anything be held for a permit, and will it arrive in one piece? This page answers them.

How Bali shipments work: goods are imported and cleared in Jakarta under IDX Import DTD DDP (air minimum 50 kg chargeable weight per air waybill; sea LCL or FCL), then forwarded to Bali and delivered door to door. Delivery to your villa, hotel or restaurant address is quoted per shipment.
Used household goods: only by air, assessed per case.

1. Who this is for

Foreign and local villa owners furnishing a new build or a renovation; hotel, resort and beach club projects ordering fit-out packages; restaurant and bar owners bringing in kitchen and bar equipment; interior designers and architects specifying pieces from Australian, European and American suppliers; and contractors who need materials on site in the right order. We also work with overseas suppliers who sell to Bali clients and want to offer a delivered, duty-paid price.

2. What we ship to Bali

Furniture

Indoor and outdoor furniture, upholstered pieces, beds, joinery and loose furniture, crated or palletised.

Lighting and fixtures

Pendants, wall lights, outdoor and architectural lighting, switches and fittings. Some lighting needs SNI or a surveyor report, checked per HS code.

Kitchen and bar equipment

Ovens, refrigeration, coffee machines, bar equipment and stainless benches for restaurants, villas and hotels.

Building and finishing materials

Tiles, stone, sanitaryware, tapware, flooring, glass and hardware. Some ceramic, glass and steel products are restricted HS codes.

Soft furnishings and decor

Rugs, curtains, linen, artwork and accessories, often mixed into one shipment from several suppliers.

Pool, spa and AV

Pumps, filtration, spa equipment, audio-visual and smart-home systems. Wireless devices need an SDPPI certificate.

3. How your goods reach Bali

  1. Pickup and freight. From the supplier or your consolidation point to Jakarta, by air or by sea (LCL or a full container).
  2. Customs in Jakarta. Import declaration and release at Soekarno-Hatta or Tanjung Priok. Bali shipments are cleared in Jakarta, not at Bali’s airport or port.
  3. Duty and taxes. Import duty, VAT (11% effective) and income tax article 22 are included in the DDP quote, so nothing is collected from you on delivery for those items.
  4. Onward to Bali. Forwarded from Jakarta to Bali and delivered to the address, whether Canggu, Seminyak, Ubud, Uluwatu, Sanur or Nusa Dua. Delivery to the property is quoted per shipment after we check access: narrow lanes and steep driveways sometimes need a smaller vehicle or manual carry.

Under DDP the goods are imported through a registered Indonesian importer of record arranged by us, so you do not need your own import licence for eligible goods. More: DDP shipping to Bali.

4. From Australia, Europe and the USA

Australia. Furniture, lighting and outdoor products from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth suppliers; see DDP shipping Australia to Bali. Europe. Italian furniture and lighting, French and Spanish tiles and stone, Dutch and German kitchen equipment; see DDP shipping Europe to Bali. USA. Outdoor kitchens, appliances, AV and hospitality supplies; see DDP shipping USA to Bali.

When you buy from several suppliers in one country, they can deliver to one pickup point so the goods travel together on one air waybill or bill of lading. That helps reach the air minimum of 50 kg per air waybill and keeps the paperwork in one set.

5. Permits and checks before you buy

Most new furniture and decor is general cargo, but a villa or restaurant fit-out often mixes in regulated items. Examples to flag early: some lamps and lighting, electric cables and household appliances (SNI, sometimes a surveyor report); some ceramic tiles, glass and steel products (SNI or import approval); wireless speakers, smart locks and WiFi systems (SDPPI); food and ingredients for a restaurant (BPOM and quarantine). Wooden crates and pallets must be treated and marked to ISPM 15. We review restricted goods per shipment and handle them when the shipment can be made compliant. See restricted goods (Indonesian).

6. Used furniture and personal belongings

Second-hand furniture and household goods follow different rules from new goods. We accept them only by air and assess each case before booking, based on what the items are, their condition and who the consignee is. Send a list with photos first; do not ship until we confirm.

7. Documents to prepare

8. Planning around your handover date

Fit-out projects rarely fail on one big shipment; they slip because the last few items arrive after the contractor has left. Ship bulky, early-stage items such as tiles, sanitaryware and joinery by sea, and keep air freight for the late or critical pieces: lighting, hardware, a missing chair. Send invoices and packing lists as soon as each supplier is ready, so we can classify the goods and flag permit issues while there is still time to fix them. We give transit estimates with each quote, based on the current schedule and the customs channel, but not fixed arrival dates, so build a margin into your programme.

9. Protecting furniture and fragile pieces

Long journeys and several handovers are hard on furniture, glass and stone. Ask your supplier for export packing: corner protection, moisture barriers for upholstery and timber, and crates for glass, stone and lighting. We ask for photos of the packed goods at booking, and cargo insurance is available on request, based on the declared value.

10. Quotes and booking

Quotes are issued in Indonesian rupiah (IDR); a USD reference amount can be shown on request. Indicative prices are on our rate pages and in the IndoExpress quote app; the final figure, including delivery to your address in Bali, is confirmed after we check the invoices and packing lists.
