Shipping Mining Equipment and Spare Parts to Indonesia
Your excavator is down at a nickel site in Sulawesi and the hydraulic pump that will get it moving again is on a shelf in Germany. Every hour it stands still costs more than the part. This page is for maintenance planners, procurement managers and project engineers at mining contractors who need equipment and spare parts moved from Europe, Australia, the Americas or Asia to an Indonesian mine, with customs, duty and paperwork handled by one team.
What we offer for mining cargo:IDX Import DTD DDP (door to door, duties paid; air minimum 50 kg chargeable weight per air waybill, sea LCL or FCL), IDX Import Port to Port with IDX Customs Clearance if your company imports in its own name, and project or heavy-lift handling for oversized units. Where customs happens: in Jakarta only (Tanjung Priok for sea, Soekarno-Hatta for air). Onward delivery to the site region is quoted per shipment. Rate pages · Quote app →
Mining logistics calls rarely start with “what is your rate”. They start with a stopped machine or a shutdown window: a final drive for a haul truck in Kalimantan, crusher liners for a gold project in Nusa Tenggara Barat, a slurry pump for a plant in Morowali. You tell us what the part is, where it is, where it must go and how urgent it is; we tell you which service fits, which documents the supplier must issue, and what we can and cannot do for that destination before anything is booked.
2. What worries site teams, and how we deal with it
Customs holds
Most holds start with paperwork that does not match the cargo: “spare parts” with no part numbers, or a wrong HS code. We classify from your part numbers and specification sheets before the goods leave origin.
Surprise duties
Import duty, VAT (11% effective) and income tax article 22 depend on the HS code and the customs value. Under DDP they are inside the quote; under port to port we show the estimate before you ship.
Missing permits
Used equipment, some steel products, chemicals and anything with a radio transmitter can be restricted (lartas). We check the HS code and conditions before booking, not after arrival.
Damage
Heavy, oily and oddly shaped components need proper crating, lashing and lifting points. We ask for packing details and photos up front; cargo insurance is available on request.
Losing time
The part of the timeline you control is the documents: a complete invoice, packing list and photos before the cargo moves.
Remote delivery
Access roads, barge schedules and site entry rules vary. We check the site and access before quoting the onward leg.
3. Choosing air, sea or project cargo by urgency
Machine down. Air freight. Under IDX Import DTD DDP the minimum is 50 kg chargeable weight per air waybill; several urgent parts for one consignee can share an air waybill. If your company imports in its own name, air under IDX Import Port to Port plus IDX Customs Clearance is the alternative.
Small, non-restricted parts. If the supplier can deliver to one of our origin warehouses, IDX Import Drop Point Consol DDP starts from 10 kg by air.
Planned maintenance and rebuild kits. Sea LCL (minimum 3 W/M per bill of lading under DDP) or a full container, timed so the parts arrive before the shutdown window.
Complete machines and oversized units. Flat rack, open top or breakbulk for crushers, mill components, conveyor sections, gensets and large attachments, handled as project cargo and heavy lift.
4. From Jakarta to the mine
All international cargo is imported and cleared in Jakarta: at Tanjung Priok for sea freight and at Soekarno-Hatta for air freight. It then moves by domestic air, sea or road to the city or port nearest the site, and on to the site where access allows. Typical destinations include the nickel belt in Central and Southeast Sulawesi (Morowali and the Kolaka area), coal operations in East and South Kalimantan, and gold and copper projects in Papua and Nusa Tenggara Barat.
Each onward leg is quoted per shipment after we check the address, access and site entry requirements. For regional detail see nickel mining logistics and coal logistics. Transit times are confirmed as estimates with each quote, not as a fixed date.
5. Who should be the importer
Your company has an NIB with import licence. You can import in your own name. We provide IDX Import Port to Port (freight to Jakarta) and IDX Customs Clearance (declaration and release), and you pay duty and taxes directly as importer.
Your company holds a duty facility. If you hold a customs facility for capital goods, for example under a masterlist, the facility belongs to the holder, so the holder must be the importer. Tell us at the request-for-quote stage; we prepare and coordinate the clearance documents in that company’s name.
No import licence, or you want one landed price. Under IDX Import DTD DDP the goods are imported through a registered Indonesian importer of record arranged by us, and duty, taxes, clearance and delivery are in one quote. See importer of record in Indonesia.
Used or rebuilt parts follow separate import rules and are reviewed per shipment; see importing used machinery (Indonesian).
6. Documents the supplier should prepare
Commercial invoice with part numbers, manufacturer, a plain-English description of what each item is and does, unit values, currency and country of origin. “Spare parts” on its own is not a description.
Packing list with gross and net weight and dimensions per package, plus the number of packages.
Photos of goods and packing, plus specification sheets for technical items.
MSDS for oils, greases, coolants, chemicals and batteries. These are reviewed per shipment as dangerous goods and are not carried under air DDP.
Proof of origin if you want a preferential duty rate under a trade agreement; checked per HS code.
Wooden crates and pallets treated and marked to ISPM 15.
For used or rebuilt items, condition and year of manufacture.
7. Duty and taxes on mining equipment
Every formal import pays import duty, VAT (11% effective) and income tax article 22. The exact amounts depend on the HS code of each item and on the customs value of the shipment: a mixed shipment of filters, hoses and engine components can carry several duty rates, so we classify each line before quoting. For the general rules see Indonesia import duty and tax; for heavy equipment HS codes in Indonesian see excavator import duty and heavy equipment import.
8. How a mining shipment runs with us
Request. Part numbers, weights, dimensions, origin, site, invoice value and urgency.
Check. We classify the goods, check restrictions and confirm the importer route.
Written quote in Indonesian rupiah (IDR), USD reference on request, with the onward leg to site shown separately.
Booking in our app with your PO number; invoice, packing list and photos uploaded.
Freight, clearance in Jakarta, delivery to the city or site as quoted.
Indicative prices are on our rate pages and in the IndoExpress quote app; the final figure is confirmed after we see the documents.
Our machine is down. What is the fastest way to get a part from Europe to a site in Sulawesi?
Air freight. Under IDX Import DTD DDP the minimum is 50 kg chargeable weight per air waybill. The total time is the flight to Jakarta, customs clearance (which depends on the documents and the inspection channel) and the onward leg to the site region. We give an estimate with the quote, not a fixed date.
Can customs clearance be done at the mine or at a port near the site?
No. Import clearance is done in Jakarta, at Tanjung Priok for sea cargo or Soekarno-Hatta for air cargo. Delivery from Jakarta to the site region is quoted per shipment.
Our company has its own import licence. Can we still use you?
Yes. With an NIB with import licence you import in your own name: we provide IDX Import Port to Port and IDX Customs Clearance, and you pay duty and taxes directly as importer. Onward delivery is quoted separately.
We hold a duty exemption facility. Can it be used on a DDP shipment?
A facility belongs to the company that holds it, so that company must be the importer. We prepare and coordinate the clearance documents in its name through IDX Customs Clearance.
Can you ship used, rebuilt or exchange components?
Non-new goods follow separate import rules. Tell us the condition before you buy; we review it per shipment.
Can you move a complete haul truck, crusher or genset?
Yes, as project cargo by flat rack, open top or breakbulk, checked per shipment before we quote.
Are oils, greases and batteries accepted?
They are treated as dangerous goods and reviewed per shipment with the MSDS and packing details. They are not carried under air DDP; the mode and cost are confirmed in writing.
In which currency do you quote?
In Indonesian rupiah (IDR). A USD reference amount can be shown on request.
