Importing Electronics into Indonesia

A pallet of LED panels is packed in Shenzhen, a rack of servers is waiting in Amsterdam, and an Indonesian buyer has already paid the deposit. Before you ask about freight, ask the questions customs will ask: does this HS code need an import approval or a surveyor report, does the product need SNI, and what about the lithium batteries inside? This page is for brands, distributors, system integrators, data-centre teams and foreign sellers who want electronics landed in Indonesia without a hold in Jakarta.

What we offer for electronics: IDX Import DTD DDP for eligible goods (air minimum 50 kg chargeable weight per air waybill; sea LCL or FCL), IDX Import Port to Port with IDX Customs Clearance when the permit holder imports in its own name, and IDX Import Drop Point Consol DDP from 10 kg by air for small, non-restricted items.
Where customs happens: in Jakarta (Soekarno-Hatta or Tanjung Priok); delivery elsewhere is quoted per shipment.

1. What goes wrong with electronics shipments

Electronics rarely get stuck because of the freight. They get stuck because a requirement was discovered after the goods arrived: a surveyor report that should have been issued before loading, an SNI certificate that does not cover the model, a WiFi module nobody mentioned, or batteries packed without the right test summary. Each of those can mean storage costs, re-export or goods that cannot be released at all. We check these points per HS code and per model before you book, and we tell you plainly when a product cannot be imported yet.

2. The checks we run before you ship

Import approval (PI) and surveyor report (LS)

Many electronics HS codes fall under Indonesia’s import rules for electronics, which can require an import approval held by the importer and a pre-shipment surveyor report. The LS is issued at origin before loading and cannot be obtained after arrival. These rules have changed several times, so we check the current requirement per HS code.

Mandatory SNI

Some products need SNI certification and the SNI mark before import, for example certain lamps and lighting products, electric cables and some household appliances. The certificate covers specific models and a specific holder.

SDPPI for wireless devices

Anything with WiFi, Bluetooth, cellular or another radio function needs an SDPPI device certificate per model, held by an Indonesian entity. See telecom equipment import.

Lithium batteries

Batteries, alone or packed with or inside equipment, are dangerous goods in transport. We need the MSDS and the UN38.3 test summary, and each shipment is reviewed for mode and packing.

Labels, manuals and warranty

Certain electronics sold in Indonesia need Indonesian-language labels, manuals and warranty cards. Plan this at the factory, not in the warehouse.

Used and refurbished

Used electronics are largely restricted. Send the details before you pay the supplier; we review it per shipment.

3. Servers, IT and data-centre hardware

Servers, storage arrays, switches, UPS units, racks and cabling are usually high value and often urgent. Three things matter: the full value declared on the invoice, the batteries inside UPS units and some servers, and any wireless function in access points or controllers. We classify each line, check SDPPI and SNI where relevant, and offer cargo insurance on request. For larger projects see data-centre equipment import (Indonesian) and high-value goods shipping.

4. What to check, by product type

This list is a starting point, not a ruling: the deciding factor is always the HS code and the exact model.

5. Choosing the service

The Indonesian buyer holds the permits. Import approvals, SNI certificates and SDPPI certificates are tied to a named company. When the buyer holds them and has an NIB with import licence, it usually imports in its own name: we provide IDX Import Port to Port and IDX Customs Clearance, and the buyer pays duty and taxes directly. See customs clearance in Indonesia.

General electronics with no product permit requirement. IDX Import DTD DDP covers freight, clearance, import duty and taxes and delivery in one quote; the goods are imported through a registered Indonesian importer of record arranged by us.

Small orders and accessories. If your supplier can deliver to one of our origin warehouses in Asia or California, IDX Import Drop Point Consol DDP starts from 10 kg by air. It is for non-restricted general cargo only.

6. Documents to prepare

7. Duty and taxes on electronics

Electronics pay import duty plus VAT (11% effective) and income tax article 22. Duty rates vary widely between HS codes, and some goods qualify for preferential rates under trade agreements with a valid certificate of origin, checked per HS code. Under DDP these amounts are inside the quote. More: Indonesia import duty and tax.

8. How it works

  1. Send the product list with model numbers, datasheets and battery details.
  2. We check HS codes, PI and LS, SNI, SDPPI and dangerous goods rules.
  3. Written quote in Indonesian rupiah (IDR), USD reference on request.
  4. Booking in our app; invoice, packing list and photos uploaded.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do all electronics need an import approval and a surveyor report?
No. It depends on the HS code and on the importer, and the rules have changed several times. We check the current requirement for each HS code before you ship.
Can the surveyor report be arranged after the goods arrive in Jakarta?
No. A pre-shipment surveyor report is issued at origin before loading. If it is required and missing, the goods cannot be cleared normally.
Which electronics need SNI certification?
Only products on the mandatory list, for example certain lamps and lighting products, electric cables and some household appliances. The certificate covers specific models and a named holder; we check per HS code.
Can you ship products with lithium batteries?
Yes, when they can be shipped compliantly. We need the MSDS and the UN38.3 test summary, and each shipment is reviewed for mode and packing.
We are a foreign brand without an Indonesian company. Can you import for us?
For eligible general electronics, yes: IDX Import DTD DDP imports through a registered Indonesian importer of record arranged by us. Products that need SNI, SDPPI or an import approval need those permits in place first; we review each case per shipment.
Can you import used or refurbished electronics?
Used electronics are largely restricted. Send the details before buying and we review it per shipment.
What is the smallest electronics shipment you handle?
Under IDX Import DTD DDP by air, 50 kg chargeable weight per air waybill. Small non-restricted items delivered to one of our origin warehouses can go under IDX Import Drop Point Consol DDP from 10 kg by air.
In which currency do you quote?
In Indonesian rupiah (IDR). A USD reference amount can be shown on request.
